The Spiral of Life Sculpture - Strand Ephemera 2019

 The Spiral of Life

"The helical spiral, as found in nature, is essentially the transmission of energy, radiating out and drawing in, infinitely and eternally. Therefore we exist in nature, flowing with energy, and as we connect with each other, it creates an infinite flow of energy and unity - the very essence of life itself flowing through us." - Written by Melissa Carey

Melissa was an invited artist for the biannual sculpture exhibition "Strand Ephemera" by Townsville City Galleries, located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Her artwork "The Spiral Of Life" represented a timber helical spiral and was displayed on the beach front at The Strand for 12 days. At night, the sculpture came to life with video projections and live fire spinning performances.

The sculpture was made entirely of pine timber and screws, in a parametric, helical spiral that Melissa designed. The sculpture spans 6 metres in length by 2.5 metres high/wide. Melissa is hands on with all her artworks, from designing, building to installation, along with the help of her team.

Melissa was invited to speak at the "Professional Development for Artists" night - a panel discussion with internationally renowned exhibiting artists about igniting careers in the Arts.

Everything starts with an idea - this is Melissa's first design of the spiral sculpture, made with matchstick timber pieces to create a marquette.
