St Clare's College - Ocean Art Installation
Melissa collaborated with St Clare's College to create this art installation with the year 8 classes. During a brainstorming session, together they chose the ocean-theme with sea creatures, to raise awareness of the climate emergency and the importance of taking care of our oceans to preserve the beautiful array of sea creatures and life. ⠀
⠀
Melissa held a series of workshops where she taught the girls new skills and showed them how to create handmade sea creatures using textiles. They made jellyfish, starfish and created little macrame hangings for the ocean textures, and added them to the art installation, that is now hanging in their school hallway.
This was such an enriching project, many of the year 8 girls were so excited to be part of this project, they even came during their lunch breaks to help and kept finishing their little sea creatures after school. Once the art installation was installed in the main hallway, the students were so excited to show their parents what they had created together at the awards night. This is exactly the kind of art collaborations that Melissa is passionate about - to be able to share knowledge and inspire creativity to young kids is what she truly loves.
Made in Sydney, Australia.
